The Big Dreaming - Michael Rosen : FCBGCBA24 post

I'm absolutely thrilled to be sharing this book by Michael Rosen as part of the Federation of Children's Book Groups Children's Book Award. I'm a huge fan of his, and so it's an honour and privilege to be able to host and post about yet another beautiful book he has written for children: 'The Big Dreaming'.

About the book:

An internationally celebrated household name, Michael Rosen is a giant of children's literature: having written the beloved modern classic, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, along with over 140 other books. The Big Dreaming was his first partnership with Daniel Egnéus, whose work has been published in 19 countries to date. Weaving together Rosen’s lyrical and elegant text with Egneus’s bold and vibrant illustrations, it is a stunning story about the beauty of nature and the dreams that sustain us.

Senior Commissioning Editor Pari Thomson says ‘The Big Dreaming is an instant classic from one of the greatest storytellers of our time. It is an unmissable tale about hope and the power of stories, accompanied by completely stunning illustrations by Daniel Egnéus. We are thrilled to be publishing it at Bloomsbury.’

Michael Rosen says, ‘I am delighted that The Big Dreaming that it was illustrated by the amazingly talented Daniel Egneus. It’s a story about hope and perseverance that’s very close to my heart – and I hope that it will comfort and uplift readers too.’

The Cold is coming, and it’s time for Big Bear and Little Bear to get ready for the Big Sleep: for bears sleep all winter long, and wake up in the spring. But Little Bear is worried. What if they run out of dreams during the Big Sleep? So begins a grand adventure, as Little Bear sets off to find new dreams – and bring them safely home again.

Daniel Egnéus adds, ‘I was excited to work on this project because the story is such a universal one. It’s about how we prepare to face the unknown. Will we come through? Have we done enough? I love the way Michael sets up these worrying questions and gives us a lovely resolution of hope and joy with the coming of spring and new life.’

About the FCBG:

The Children’s Book Award is the only national award for children’s books that is voted for entirely by children. It is owned and coordinated by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups and is highly respected by teachers, parents and librarians. It has brought acclaim and strong sales to past winners such as J.K. Rowling, Patrick Ness, Andy Stanton, Malorie Blackman, Anthony Horowitz and Michael Morpurgo, who has won a record four times. The award has often been the first to recognise the future stars of children’s fiction and has the ability to turn popular authors into bestsellers.
